Chopper College to Showcase Eco-Friendly Motorcycle in Eco Experience at MN State Fair 8/30-9/1
August 29, 2011Chopper College has created a custom, eco-friendly, high performance motorcycle-powered by biofuels and enhanced with bio-composite parts.
The completed EcoCycle™ will be showcased in the Eco Experience building at the Minnesota State Fair Tuesday August 30th through Thursday September 1st.
The EcoCycle™ project is an example of how Chopper College is at the forefront of motorcycle innovation and experts in bio-fuels and bio-materials. The motorcycle serves as an excellent demonstration of next generation technologies that will soon be seen on the commercial market.
The innovative aspects of the EcoCycle™ include a gas tank and fender made from hybrid glass/bio-composite materials (hemp) and an engine that has been modified to efficiently operate on E85 (85% ethanol blend). Both technologies present opportunities to decrease harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 40-70% from tailpipe emissions to pollutants resulting from manufacturing and recycling.
Benefits of the E85 technology:
- Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 40%
- Reduces petroleum dependency by more than 70%
- The US produced more than 13 billion gallons of Ethanol in 2010 and is poised to be the world’s largest exporter of Ethanol for 2011
Benefits of bio-composite materials:
- 100% recyclable
- 30% lighter than steel
- As strong as steel
- Reduces life-cycle carbon footprint by 70% compared to aluminum
