Engine Theory Boot Camp

This course offers a brief history and review of the internal combustion engine. Students will dis-assemble and assemble a modern v-twin engine studying everything from parts to specifications along the way. Students will be exposed to standard industry procedures for removing, replacing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, rebuilding and assembling v-twin engines. Taught by an ASE Master Technician and Certified Engine Machinist, students are sure to walk-away with a detailed knowledge of internal combustion engines.

After taking this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the most common types of engines used in motorcycles
  • Explain the operating principles of the combustion engine
  • Identify the functions and parts of the four-stroke engine
  • Describe the construction and design of the four-stroke engine and its components
  • Understand the basic parameters of V-Twin engine performance and operation
  • Inspect the parts of the engine for signs of wear and damage
  • Use precision measuring equipment and measure the engine parts for wear
  • Service the heads, cylinders and crankcase and related components of the engine
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engine failures
  • Assemble and bench test the engine
  • Describe engine installation, initial starting, and break-in procedures

In addition to hands-on instruction, students receive a course manual to take home for future reference. Safety glasses and gloves are provided as well as lunch daily. If you're passionate about bikes, you don't want to miss out on this class.

The Engine Theory Boot Camp is offered at Chopper College in partnership with Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
